Next Phase for ASX Gold Stocks_e.png

This week's move by Zijin Gold International to acquire control of Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co., Ltd. in a ~US$2.6bn transaction is another strong signal of where the gold market is heading.

Notably, Zijin Gold International was spun off from Zijin Mining Group and listed on HKEX last year as the group’s overseas gold platform, while Chifeng, already an established A-share listed producer, has also tapped the HK market last year to broaden its investor base. Together, they represent two of the most prominent recent gold IPO stories globally, with HK emerging as a key capital raising venue, underscoring the depth of Asian investor demand for precious metals exposure.

What this tells us:

•  consolidating of production is accelerating

•  scale continues to matter

•  strategic buyers are positioning for sustained strength in gold prices

But what’s more interesting is what sits beneath this.

Asian capital is not just consolidating producing assets, it is also actively looking for exposure further down the curve.

Australian Precious Metals Day in Hong Kong, 26 February 2026

Last month in Hong Kong, we tested this directly.

We hosted our inaugural Australian Precious Metals Day, bringing a select group of ASX-listed precious metals companies into a curated room of institutional investors, family offices and strategic groups.

The outcome was clear:

•   60+ investors attended

•   strong engagement across explorers, developers and producers

•   multiple follow-up meetings and ongoing investor dialogue

Importantly, this wasn’t theoretical demand — it included active participation from groups such as:

· Zijin Mining Group

· Zhaojin Mining Industry Co., Ltd | 招金矿业

· Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co., Ltd.

· UOB Kay Hian

· Haitong International Securities Group Limited

· Phillip Securities

· Mazarin Capital

· Trafalgar Capital Partners

· Oryx Global Partners

…alongside a broader mix of institutional, family office and strategic capital.

The takeaway for juniors

There is a clear disconnect:

•   Asian investors are allocating to precious metals

•   They understand the development curve

•   But they are not systematically accessing ASX-listed explorers and developers

When introduced through a curated, high-conviction format, engagement is immediate.

What we're doing next

We are building on this momentum:

•   next Hong Kong investor forum (2H2026)

•   continued engagement with institutional, family office and strategic capital

•   early-stage planning for investor site visits into key Australian mining jurisdictions
